This book changed my life. No - correction - this book gave me the tools to begin changing my life. Within its pages, I learned to identify the kind of mom I had/have, helped me identify the kind of mom I was/am (or at least the one my daughter perceives I am), but probably most importantly, helped me begin to see who I really am. And all in a way that allowed me to understand - and, when necessary - forgive my mother, my daughter and, especially, myself. Drs. Townsend and Cloud have a special gift in that they are able to point out missteps and even character flaws without being judgmental, harsh or preachy. Their understanding of the human condition and belief in redemption is both inspirational and motivational. I have always kept a running mental list of my fantasy dinner party guests - Winston Churchill, Pope John XIII, JFK, Thomas Jefferson , Carl Jung , Elizabeth I and her misguided half-sister Mary (time for them to make up and play nice) are on my current list. Now, however, I'm going to have to add another leaf to my dining room table to accommodate Townsend and Cloud, who can help all my other fiesta with their mother issues,
This book not only changed my perspective on the role of a mother but it changed my relationships with other women as well.I was able to complete my process of emotionally leaving home and find that setting needed boundaries with my mother actually brought us closer as women.My assertiveness at work has improved and I have been able to set needed boundaries with other women in my workplace without feeling “one down†from them.I better understood my significant other’s relationship with his mom and the impact it was having on our relationship. I realized that we were both playing out our mom issues in our relationship but I can only take responsibility for growing through my part.Lastly, the book gave me an honest and practical vision for the kind of mother I must pray to become. No one is perfect, but being honest about your imperfections and asking The Lord for His grace can go a long way.
This book. There was so much I couldn't understand about how/why I did things in relationships with friends, love interests, other family members, and random people- until I read this book. I couldn't figure out why I was the way I was. WOW! Talk about eye-opening! Everyone should read The Mom Factor, there are fundamental truths we cannot comprehend on our own about the instinctual/internal relationship created between mother and child and how instrumental moms are to our being.I've recommended or purchased this book for someone more than fifty times and I still think it's better than all my therapy! ;)
SO GOOD! If you want to become a better mother, if you had a great or a horrible mom or just want to have a healthy adult life this is for you! Easy read, engaging, and NOT a mom-bashing book. I needed this book to become a better mother and to realize how God fulfills all the areas that moms lack in (we are ALL human). Great read.
Book was hard tp put down. All five mother "types" portraited in this book could be your mother, one of them , yourself as a mother, or a combination of serval "mother types" could be you. I went to order one for my son and another for my daughter as a Christmas gift, and I couldn't even find one copy. All sold out! I will try again at a later date. I couldn't even order one from Barnes and Noble !A very interesting read. I Highly recommend it, if you can find a copy !
This book was recommended by my counselor. I have found that it opened my eyes to things I did not realize about my childhood and how it has affected by development. It has brought me to a place of seeing how my own development issue has contributed to my parenting style. I am thankful that I see it now and can reconcile my thoughts and behaviors before it's too late. Highly recommend this book for everyone, even if h you think you don't need it.
This book absolutely shocked me with how accurate it was! I had no idea others went through many of the same things I did, which was a relief. It not only explains what happened in the past, but what you can do to save your future. This book, along with "Boundaries" (by the same authors), quite literally saved my sanity and my life.
